I’ve done my best to make meaningful use of my time here. Each day, I choose to do something positive and productive, reading, writing poetry, playing chess, joining different groups, and working out. I see every day as a gift, even when it’s raining outside. I volunteer in the hospital four days a week, helping older men with whatever they may need. Giving back keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of compassion and service. I also work out and try to eat right, because I truly believe a healthy mind starts with a healthy body. Some people say they hate prison. While there are parts I don’t like, this experience has taught me a great deal. It has shaped me into a more patient, caring, and understanding man. What I’m looking for now are genuine people and real connections, someone I can be myself with, and who feels free to do the same.
