Seeking a pen pal. My name is Jerry, and I’ve spent more than fifty years inside prison, most of my life within these walls. I don’t expect that to change. What has changed, over all those years, is me. I’ve become a devoted reader and a lifelong student of history, literature, philosophy, and the endlessly complicated story of what it means to be human. Books have been my companions, my teachers, and my windows to a world I rarely get to see. I take full responsibility for my past. I’ve had decades to sit with it, reflect on it, and try to become someone better because of it. My story is a cautionary one, and I share that openly. Most of my family is gone now.
